Football quarterback Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) and girlie Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) have their flight go down, bringing them to the lab of Dr. Zarkov. He brings them along on an experimental spaceship to the planet Mongo, which has been taken over by tyrant Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow). They are captured, but Flash escapes execution. Now, he goes about collecting various strange aliens (and their accompanying armies) in order to take down Ming, save Dale from being his sex slave and thwart his plans to continue attacking Earth from afar.
