The Omega Man (1971) is a Last man On Earth thriller. Neville (Charlton Heston) plays the sole human survivor of a plague that wiped out mankind. There are others on the planet, but the plague has mutated them so that they're not entirely human any more. Neville is successful in creating a serum that will arrest the effects of the disease in the younger generation of mutants and manages to save a few before he is betrayed by Lisa (Rosalind Cash) to Matthias (Anthony Zerbe), who is convinced that the technology Neville used to create the serum is the cause of the plague in the first place. Neville is captured, tried, and sentenced to death. He manages to get the serum to the few mutants who are willing to use it, but dies in the attempt. The story ends with uncertainty as to whether the human race will continue or not.
