Paul Atreides concubine Shani gave birth to two children Leto (James McAvoy) and his sister. Paul becomes a hermit in the desert. The planet Dune is run by his sister Alia who has become mentally unstable. Paul and Alia's mother Jessica (Alice Krige). Comes to visit. A rival house (led by susan Sarandon) tries to kill the children with tiger-like animals but they escape. Leto takes advantage of this to fake his own death and go into the wilderness. He lets grubs of Dune's giant worms enter him and he gets special powers. There is a civil war and Alia kills herself. Jessica goes back to Caladan.
